Find the right path from first turns to expert coaching

SnoElite Ability Level Guide

It is important that you select the correct ability level when booking, to make sure your lesson, clinic, camp, or training program is as effective as possible.

Our level system is here to help you assess your current skill ability. This is not about your long-term goals, but your real and consistent ability today. By selecting the right level, you make sure that the session is suitable and safe from the very first turn.

If you are not sure which level fits you best, choose the lower one or contact us for advice.

We use two parallel systems:

SnoElite Snowsports Levels — for private lessons, camps, and clinics

SnoElite Collective Pathway — for structured training and instructor preparation

SnoElite Snowsports Levels

These levels apply to all recreational lessons, whether private or in a group. That includes courses, clinics, and multi-day camps in alpine or telemark skiing.

Each level reflects your ability to control speed, link turns, and handle varied terrain

Complete Beginner

First time on skis.

I will learn how to move on skis, control your speed to a stop, use basic lifts, and link your first turns on green slopes.

Beginner

Able to link snowplough turns on green runs.

I am starting to control your speed with rhythm and confidence and may be beginning to explore blue terrain.

Intermediate

Parallel turns on blue runs and beginning reds.

I ski with stability and control on moderate slopes. I am beginning to carve and developing better balance, timing, and pole use.

Advanced

Confident on red runs and starting to explore black terrain.

I can carve at moderate speed, perform short turns, and handle steeper sections, easy bumps, and mixed snow with control.

Expert

High-level skiing in all conditions.

I ski with precision across steeps, bumps, and off-piste. I adapt easily to changing snow and terrain and may be training for personal performance, racing, or instructor development.

Choosing the correct level is essential for your safety, your learning, and the overall quality of the session. This applies to both private and group bookings.

SnoElite Collective Pathway

The SnoElite Collective is for skiers preparing for instructor certification or training toward advanced personal performance. This system follows international standards and reflects the typical levels used in ISIA-aligned qualifications.

Each stage includes focused technical coaching, video feedback, and terrain-based movement training. You can join at any stage that matches your current level of skiing and teaching experience.

Foundations – Intro to Instructor Training

For strong recreational skiers exploring the path toward becoming an instructor

I focus on developing technical understanding, learning basic drills, and discovering how instructors move, demonstrate, and think. A first step before entering Level 1 Prep.

This level requires confident skiing on groomed terrain as a minimum; stronger ability is welcome.

Core – Level 1 Prep

Train to teach first-time and beginner skiers.

I am aiming for my first instructor qualification. I will work on my technical consistency and begin learning to structure safe beginner lessons. Demos, movement analysis, and progression basics are introduced.

The minimum requirement is confident parallel skiing on red runs; I may already ski more dynamically.

Progression – Level 2 Prep

Teaching and skiing across intermediate terrain.

I can ski with flow and control on red runs and am working toward more dynamic carving and short turns. I will learn to teach students at a range of levels, read terrain, and refine my feedback and demos.

Confident control on red runs is the minimum; more advanced ability is welcome

Performance – Level 3 Prep

Advanced skiing and teaching readiness.

I am training for expert-level skiing. This includes bumps, steeps, carving at speed, and off-piste readiness. My teaching is starting to cover high-level coaching and movement adaptation.

This level expects full control in all groomed terrain as a minimum.

Mastery – Level 4 Prep

Expert skiing and leadership-level instruction.

Precision in all snow types and terrain, including race/freeride conditions and exam-level demos. I am also training in coaching logic, scenario delivery, diagnostics, and leadership-level coaching.

Minimum is confident performance in varied conditions; I may already ski at or near exam level.

Elite – Beyond Level 4

Ongoing development beyond formal certification.

I am refining my skiing in all terrain and snow types, building elite-level demos, and developing coaching logic, diagnostics, and leadership-level training.

This level is for instructors seeking continued growth beyond Level 4. The minimum requirement is full Level 4 skiing level; this track is open-ended.

Selecting the correct level ensures that your training aligns with your current technical ability and development goals. It allows your coach to deliver precise, progressive, and high‑quality sessions, maintaining the standard expected within the SnoElite Collective.
